Grammy Awards 2015 Recap: 'Stay With Me' Singer Takes the Cake - Wins Four Awards

Sam Smith emerged from Sunday's Grammy Awards as one of the biggest winners in the music industry's biggest night. The British singer took home Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best New Artist.

"I want to thank the man who this record is about, who I fell in love with last year. Thank you so much for breaking my heart because you got me four Grammys," Smith said as he accepted his award for Record of the Year.

"Before I made this record, I was doing everything to try and get my music heard," Smith said early in the telecast as an appeal to people to accept who they are.

"I tried to lose weight and I was making awful music and it was only until that I started to be myself that the music started to flow and people started to listen."

His big night came just nine months after the release of his debut album "The Lonely Hour." Smith was also the only solo artist in 2014 to sell over a million albums in both the UK and the US.

The 22-year-old won two Grammys on the back of his hit single "Stay With Me (Darkchild Version). Had it not been for Beck, and his album "Morning Phase," Smith would have had a clean sweep.

Beck beat out Smith, Pharell Williams, Ed Sheeran, and Beyonce to win Album of the Year. "Morning Phase" won three Grammys, which also included Best Rock Album.

"We made this record at my house for the most part, so I would like to thank my kids for letting me keep them awake a little bit longer," he said after Prince handed him his award.

Other big winners were Williams, Beyonce, and Rosanne Cash, who won three Grammys each.
