'Gotham' Series Cast News: Show to Introduce Gender-Swapped Firefly Villain

Fox's 'Gotham' plans to really heat things up in this upcoming season with the introduction of the villain Firefly.

It's been reported that the character will be gender-swapped in this television adaptation, and will be portrayed by Michelle Veintimilla. Beyond this difference, the character will also be interpreted differently than he's classically been in the comics.

Here's the character's description:

"Enslaved by her brothers, a notorious gang of arsonists, Bridgit Pike is forced into the family business. When she catches the eye of Selina Kyle, the young Cat Woman and the soon-to-be-Firefly team up to put Bridgit's firestarting skills to good use. But after a deadly encounter with the Pike Brothers, the meek Cinderella is transformed into a vengeful supervillain, hell bent on destroying those who have wronged her."

In the comics, Firefly has been characterized by two different men. The first was named Garfield Lynns, a movie pyrotechnics that turned to crime after his career was ruined. The next was Ted Carson, a gold miner that turned to crime after he gambled away his family fortune.

The second season of the hit show plans to introduce many more villains including Dr. Freeze, Two-Face, and more.

"Elsewhere of Gotham Season 2, we know the second run will make series regulars of Drew Powell's Butch Gilzean, Chris Chalk's Lucius Fox, Nicholas D'Agosto's Harvey Dent, and Morena Baccarin's Dr. Leslie Thompkins. Producers will incorporate such Bat-baddies as Clayface, the Mad Hatter, Mr. Freeze, Hugo Strange, Tommy Elliot, and potentially even the Court of Owls, while early episodes will serve as a "pre-embryonic" (sigh) origin story for the Joker," writes Screen Crush.

As it stands, 'Gotham' returns to television this fall.
