'Gotham' Season 3 News & Spoilers: Upcoming Season Is Not A 'Batman' Prequel
Fox has released a new promo video for "Gotham" season 3, and it looks like it is going to be a crazy season.
While the producers of the series maintain that the upcoming season is not a "Batman" prequel focusing on the caped crusader's childhood, the promo video makes it look like it. Initially, "Gotham" season 3 was envisioned as a street-level show that centers on the early days of James Gordon as part of the Gotham police force. However, the preview for season 3 appears to be a Batman show, probably since David Mazouz's Bruce Wayne is taking on a larger role in the show than most have anticipated.
The dichotomy in the new promo video is very palpable. For one, the acapella cover of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" somewhat suggests the gravity of the story, but the overall visuals, including the set design, the makeup of the characters and their dialogues, are too cartoony.
Subtitled "Mad City," "Gotham" season 3 follows Huge Strange as he releases all the big bads on Gotham streets. Among the villains that viewers should watch out for next season are Robin Lord Taylor's Penguin and Benedict Samuel's Mad Hatter. Maggie Geha will also play Poison Ivy.
Meanwhile at the Television Critics Association press conference, show producer John Stephens revealed that viewers will see some of the characters from "Suicide Squad" in season 3.
"We will be seeing proto-versions of some of those characters. We see them as sort of a proto-Killer Croc version," he said.
"Gotham" season 3 premiers on September 19 on Fox.
