‘Gotham’ Season 2 Spoilers: Showrunners Promise More Hardboiled Crime, Drama, and Villains

Even as fans have been waiting eagerly for 'Gotham' Season 2 on FOX, the show creators have revealed that the upcoming season will comprise anything between 16 and 22 episodes that will be packed with hard-edged crime, drama as well as villainous fervor.

Latin Post reports that Nicholas D'Agosto will be reprising his role as Harvey Dent, alias Two-Face, in the forthcoming season of the crime-drama television series. Recently D'Agosto took to his Twitter handle to announce, "Thank you to all of you @Gotham and #HarveyDent fans for your enthusiasm. I can't wait to join more of the fun as a regular in Season 2!"

In addition to D'Agosto, the pre-Batman series second series will also feature more familiar faces as well as a few new ones. For instance, Morena Baccarin, who portrays the character of Dr. Leslie Thompkins, is also a new series regular like D'Agosto, while the second season will also feature Chris Chalk in the role of Lucius Fox.

Meanwhile, Edward Nygma will return to congeal his path on the way to becoming the Riddler, after having committed a murder in the first season. In addition, Clayface and Mad Hatter will also be making an appearance. Apart from these characters, fans will also see the tragic criminal Mr. Freeze as well as the not-so-serious maniac the Joker in 'Gotham' Season 2.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Bruno Heller said, "We're going to find out how the hell Jerome, the proto-Joker we met earlier in [the first] season, connects with the Joker as people known him." He added, "That's the big focus of the beginning of the second season. We're going to tell the story of how the Joker came to be. ... That's teaser enough, I think."

There are rumors that Harley Quinn will not be appearing in 'Gotham' Season 2. On the other hand, the show is keen to showcase a female who will be standing as an opposite number to the Joker, who is familiar for his green hair and face-splitting grin.

As the mobster Fish Mooney is already out of the picture, sinister players in Gotham have plenty of room for maneuvering. However, a number of fans are worrying that the surplus of villainous characters may result in an overload of villains. This is all the more true with the backstories of Scarecrow and Hugo Strange is yet to come. In addition, fans cannot forget that Jack Gruber is still on the run.

'Gotham' Season 2 will premiere on FOX this fall.
