'Gotham' Season 2 Release Date, Spoilers: Mr. Freeze To Destroy Gotham City, Azrael Revealed By New Set Photos

Mr. Freeze is set to destroy Gotham City in a new promo video while a first look at Azrael is revealed by new photos at the set of "Gotham" season 2.

The new promo for "Gotham" season 2 sees Mr. Freeze turn Gotham into a freezing state, including a man with a weapon. The sequence also features James Gordon as he inspects the chilling consequences of the villain's deeds. The promo also described Mr. Freeze as "desperate and extremely dangerous," while showing the villain turn another man into ice.

"They think guns can stop me? They have no idea," Mr. Freeze said in the promo clip. With the people in the town changing to an icy state, Gordon said in the clip that he did not know how bad it was going to get.

In his interview with Comic Book, "Gotham" executive producer John Stephens said that Mr. Freeze was also a science villain and was not like some of the others from Batman's "rogue's gallery," such as Solomon Grundy who had more of a mystical or magical nature.

For Stephens, Mr. Freeze was someone who could exist in a realm where science progressed to such as point.

"House of Cards" actor Nathan Darrow is set to star in "Gotham" season 2 as Mr. Freeze, also known as Victor Fries. In the comic book storyline, Mr. Freeze serves as one of the multiple adversaries of Batman. He is revealed as a former cryogenics expert, who had an industrial accident while trying to provide cure to his terminally ill wife Nora Fries.

In other news, Azrael has been featured in photos taken from "Gotham's" New York set. Showing both masked and unmasked, it is assumed that "Gotham's" costume department had gone through great lengths to ascertain that Azraeel's suit mirrors the one in the comics, as per Movie Web.

According to the publication, the second set photo revealed James Frain to portray Azrael's role. Frain's character, Theo Gallivan, was killed by Gordon in the midseason finale; however, Frain is assumed to return as Azrael in "Gotham" season 2.

"Gotham" season 2 returns on Feb. 29 on Fox.
