In 'Gotham' Season 2, fans will see Detective Jim Gordon (portrayed by Ben McKenzie) having his hands full, as the sequel will be packed with villains like Joker, Penguin, Tigress, Riddler and Catwoman. Fans can be sure that there will be some extra heat coming his way.

Quoting a report in TVLine, IB Times states that fans will also see super villain Firefly making an appearance in 'Gotham' Season 2, but he will not be portrayed in his usual manner. While DC Comics fans know that Firefly is a male character, the show runners have cast Michelle Veintimilla for the role of the super villain. Firefly will be appearing in the fifth and sixth episodes of 'Gotham' Season 2.

Meanwhile, IGN has posted the official description of Veintimilla's character, which reads, "Enslaved by her brothers, a notorious gang of arsonists, Bridgit Pike is forced into the family business. However, when she catches the eye of Selina Kyle, the young Cat Woman and the soon-to-be-Firefly team up to put Bridgit's firestarting skills to best use. Nevertheless following a deadly encounter with the Pike Brothers, the meek Cinderella is transformed into a vengeful super villain, hell bent on destroying those who have wronged her."

In the DC Comics, Firefly is depicted as a familiar lover of fire, who is skilled in pyrotechnics and explosives. The super villain's suit is equipped with a flamethrower, grenade launchers, a jet pack as well as wings that enable him to fly. As 'Gotham' is an origins story, fans should not expect to see this version of Firefly just yet.

Meanwhile, Veintimilla has already appeared on Lifetime's 'Those Who Kill,' as well as on Broadway in 'The Visit.'

During a panel at the San Diego Comic-Con in July, show runner Bruno Heller told fans that the freshman season was all about old school Gotham, while the sophomore season will take a new turn. Heller previewed in TVLine, "This season, it's the rise of the villains," adding, as the city "starts to decline into chaos."

'Gotham' Season 2 premieres Sept. 21 on Fox at 8 p.m. EDT.
