'Gotham' Season 2 News: Michael Chiklis Joins Cast

It appears that season 2 of 'Gotham' may be getting a bit crowded with the arrival of many new actors, one being the most recently announced Michael Chiklis.

He will be playing the role of Captain Nathaniel Barnes, who will be acting as backup for Jim Gordon.

Here's what the 'Gotham' producers had to say about the character:

"Barnes lands on the Gotham City Police Department like a tornado, ripping out the dead wood of the city's police force. He is a law-and-order zealot; unafraid of making enemies on either side of the law. For Gordon (Ben McKenzie) he is a hero and a mentor, someone with whom he can share the burden of heroism. Captain Barnes proves himself to be a strong ally to Gordon, but one day he will make an equally powerful enemy."

Chiklis has been most notable for his roles in 'The Shield' and 'American Horror Story: Freak Show.' His history in strong male roles makes him a perfect candidate for this character.

This second season has been said to be one where they really plan on exploring the large gallery of villains in the 'Batman' lore.

Along with casting Mr. Freeze, Cameron Monaghan's Joker will play a huge role in how this season unfolds.

"We're going to find out how the hell Jerome, the proto-Joker we met [in season one], connects with the Joker as people know him. That's the big focus of the beginning of the second season. We're going to tell the story of how the Joker came to be," Bruno Heller told THR.

'Gotham' plans on returning to Fox this fall.
