'Gotham' Season 1 Spoilers, News: The Joker Appears Before the First Season Ends
A question has been on the mind of every 'Gotham' viewer since the show's pilot: when will the series reveal the television show's adaptation of the Joker?
Common sense would tell most that Batman's biggest villain would probably have to wait a little longer than revealing him in the first season, and this was actually the show's first incentive. However in a recent interview with TV Guide, showrunner Bruno Heller has confirmed that we may see the clown-faced villain a little sooner than expected.
"We've said you're going to be waiting a bit longer for it, but this is America - nobody wants to wait," states Heller, "So, we will scratch the surface of that story, yes. But just scratch it - a little tap on the door."
This translate into getting a glimpse of what they plan to do with the character by the end of Season 1, and perhaps totally fleshing him out by Season 2.
This news should be incredibly uplifting for fans, as they've done such great adaptations of the current characters, such as Poison Ivy, The Riddler, Catwoman, and so on.
Since the show is presented as a prelude to the actual Batman character, all of the characters are appearing younger than their original counterparts. Does this mean we'll get to see the Joker from his younger years?
Heller went on to speak on the Riddler and how his character development is coming:
"Penguin [Robin Lord Taylor] was born a sociopath and was always going down this path one way or another. [Edward] Nygma [played by Cory Michael Smith] is someone who becomes the villain, and we see that journey begin in the second half of the season... What motivates people to do things is oftentimes love. He is slowly starting to break through her defenses, but we take two steps forward and then one step back. It's not smooth sailing for Edward Nygma. It's complicated for her to have somebody's feelings in her hand. It's not as simple as rejecting somebody and having a clean conscience because she's starting to realize how deeply he cares."
