'Gotham' Season 1 Spoilers, Cast News: Jada Pinkett Smith Talks Fish Mooney's Fate in Series

Jada Pinkett Smith's character on 'Gotham,' Fish Mooney appeared for the series' finale only to meet her seemingly fitting end.

Mooney was pushed off a side of a building by the Penguin into a body of water. She was also shot by Butch prior to the push. We've seen her character come back from some pretty hellish situations, but Jada has already said she won't be back for season two.

In an interview with EW, Jada was asked if her character was killed off indefinitely. She answers:

"That's for the fans to determine. You saw the ending. She could be and she couldn't be. Who knows? It was an interesting ending."

She then states that she won't be a series regular in season two, meaning she can always pop up. Jada continues:

"I signed for a year. I don't think any of us really thought that Fish would have the life that she's had or be one of the favorite characters on the show. She was there to service a purpose, as far as helping to tell Penguin's story. I never knew exactly what it was going to be, but she's not part of the original mythology. She was created for the television show specifically. I'm a smart girl. I understood I was there to service Penguin."

Jada was later asked if there was anything more to tell about Mooney's backstory in the series:

"Oh, definitely. I absolutely do. It's just a matter of whether it services the story of Gotham or not. At the end of the day, I knew clearly that she was there to service the Penguin character. I was fine with that and happy to take that on and I had a great time doing it."

'Gotham' is expected to return to FOX this fall for the following season.
