Gospel Jazz Musician PJ Morgan Celebrates 'The Transparency Project' Album Success
Award-winning musician and recording artist PJ Morgan is celebrating the success of his latest album, The Transparency Project, released on June 1 on 1DMV Music Group. The album debuted at No. 14 on Billboard's Top Jazz Albums chart and also marks the first-ever release by 1DMV.
"We are committed to the goal of presenting musical works of superb quality and ingenuity," says Ernest Mabrey, President and CEO of 1DMV Music Group. "We are very pleased with the great success of our first artist and debut project PJ Morgan's The Transparency Project!"
"PJ's musical virtuosity and depth of heart clearly come through on this album," Mabrey continues. "We hope and expect that consumers and music fans will enjoy the project as much as we do."
Intertwining smooth jazz compositions with instrumental classic gospel hymns, The Transparency Project is skillfully articulated. The album's radio single "Hit The Floor" managed to reach Top 50 on SmoothJazz.com's Radar chart, and "Last Time" is currently impacting gospel radio formats, featuring additional vocals by Antonio McClendon giving the song a Latin flavor while inspiring listeners with encouraging lyrics.
Morgan says the single is about a man that gets up after a fall and realizes that he is never going to make that mistake again. He explains, "It is his 'Last Time' and he's telling God that he will never be in this place again."
Morgan adds, "I needed a vocalist that could move along with this track. I chose Antonio McClendon because he has the vocal acrobatics to follow the pace that the music sets. I hope that the message encourages the listener as they bop to this Latin interpretation of my thoughts and feelings set to music."
PJ Morgan has been hailed as a musical prodigy with an exceptional aptitude of melodic interpretation and expression. He is a three-time Stellar Gospel Music Award-nominee for Producer of the Year and is also the band director at Reid Temple AME, one of the largest megachurches in the U.S. In addition, he teaches Composition and Theory at The Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C.
Morgan is scheduled to celebrate the successful release of The Transparency Project with a concert at the City Winery in Washington, D.C., on July 30 (tickets here) and also has an appearance scheduled on Oct. 22 at the city's Blues Alley.
