GoPro Hero 5 Specs, GPS News: Still No Change For October Release Date?
There's no exact release date about the GoPro Hero 5, and the scarcity of the news lead some people to speculate whether or not the fifth-generation device will even come out at all.
However, a recent report from End Gadget gives fans more hope that the company is reversing its trend of rolling out cheaper models to attract more consumers.
According to the article, the leaked FCC filings hint of GPS-capability for the device, as well as an even lighter body. However, it's not clear how the GPS will enhance the experience for the user. The article surmised that it could be used to geo-locate videos taken by the user.
Another refinement in the specs of the Hero 5 is the GoPro Sniper feature, along with an easier-to-use new interface. However, there's no news on the end of GoPro that would confirm or deny this report. At this point, it's not clear if there will be two different version of the device like the Hero 5 Black and Hero 5 Silver.
Dougherty & Co. analyst Charles Anderson said that apart from the GPS and the interface, there's no significant change in the Hero 5 based on the FCC filing. Fans have been clamoring from GoPro for cellular connection to the new device but there's no news on that regard.
He also said that the dual lenses also seem to be absent in the GoPro Hero 5, which would have allowed a 360-degree capture and would take the video clips to a whole new level. But Anderson quickly added that there might be some more news in relation to this when the expected October or September release date is realized.
