Google Glass 2 Release Date News, Rumors: New and Improved Smart-Wear Device Unveiled In 2015?
While the search engine giant Google has currently stopped the sale of Google Glass, the company's maiden smart eye-wear, there are rumors that it is already working on a successor to the device, which may hit the stores sometime in the near future.
Christian Post says that recently Google informed BBC that while it has put an end to the original Google Glass, the company is still committed to introduce an improved version of the device and it remains focused on the "future of the Glass."
Till now, Google Glass was under the purview of Google X, a division of the company that concentrates on technological advancement in all spheres. Currently, the project is said to have been isolated and being developed by a team under Tony Fadell, who founded Nest and is a former employee at Apple.
Prior to this, the California-based multinational tech titan had also killed off its Explorer program. Tech Crunch quotes a Google spokesperson saying that the company is continued with the Google Glass Explorer program with a view to receive feedback on the ways this technology may be exploited in the near future.
Although Google Glass has been a major failure of the company in terms of revenue generation, the company has obtained enough feedback which will help it to begin work on improved versions of this smart eye-wear.
In addition, the Explorer program also offered the software developers an opportunity to acquire the Google Glass for $1,500.
Google has already said that the functionality of the original Google Glass will not come to an end, but it has not clarified the company will continue to provide it with software updates. Google launched the smart eye-wear in the United States in 2013.
According to some reports, Google may showcase the Google Glass 2 sometime this year. It is also expected that the new version of Google Glass will come with Intel's chips. However, as of now, neither Google nor Intel has specified the chips that would be incorporated into the Google Glass 2.
