Google Duo News & Update: App soars to the top list in free downloads
Justin Uberti, Google Duo's technical lead, shared the news about the app skyrocketing to the top list in just three days after it launched.
"Google Duo now launched in all countries. #1 app in the Play Store, 4.5 star rating!" he tweeted.
What's more surprising about this news is the fact that Google Duo managed to trump "Pokemon GO." While there's no figures how many have downloaded the Google app, the Business of Apps said that as of Aug. 8, there are already 100 million downloads for "Pokemon GO," with $268 million in revenues.
Also, there are 20 million active users playing the game every day, so the news about Google Duo edging the game is no small feat.
Google Duo is seen as the search engine giant's answer to Apple's FaceTime app. The company is selling it as a very simple way for people to use video chat service. Much like Viber, you can talk to anybody in your contact list who also has the app installed.
Just like promised, it's pretty simple to use. If somebody calls you, you will see a video of the caller before you can tap to answer.
Now, there's news that the Google Duo will also support audio calls only as relayed by Google's product lead for communication Amit Fulay, according to Android Police.
Why is this news significant? Well, there are times when your Internet connection is so low that a video call in Google Duo just won't be possible. As an aside, this is also pretty handy for husbands not trying to let their wives know where exactly are they located.
