Google Daydream VR Release Date: Beta Testing Finished For First Foray Into Virtual Reality
The good news is that Google Daydream VR is now out of beta testing. The bad news is that it won't expected to be commercially released for months.
According to Greenbot, developers can now start making apps in preparation for Daydream VR's release date. However, they may need to get their hands on the Nexus 6P since it's the only device out in the market that can test the platform.
Also, the article noted that the Nexus 6P can get scorching as Google warned that the Daydream VR will "thermally throttle CPU and GPU performance after a short period of use, depending on workload."
Hopefully, that's not going to be an issue once the Google Daydream VR will launch in the significantly much improved Pixel phones, which are billed to accept the new gear, at least according to news reports.
Developers who want to test out their apps for the Google Daydream VR will have to register for the Daydream Access Program.
PCMag said that Google is releasing the display, sensor and processor requirements for the Daydream VR. At the minimum, devices should be running the latest Android Nougat. Latency is also reported to be below 20 seconds, which promises a smooth experience.
"To make it even easier to start developing with the Google VR SDK 1.0, we've partnered with Unity and Unreal so you can use the game engines and tools you're already familiar with, said Google VR product manager Nathan Martz in a blog post.
Watch out for more news on the Google Daydream VR, which will be reported here when new information comes along.
