Google Daydream VR Latest News: Search Giant Bullish On Partnerships To Promote Android Headgear
Google is offering to fund startups and developers for apps that would use the Daydream VR as a platform, according to the latest news.
While it was first thought that Google is throwing its hat into the VR race to compete with HTC Vive or Oculus Rift, the search giant apparently saw the potential of mobile virtual reality or augmented reality for multiple practical uses beyond gaming.
Oren Rosenbaum told the Columbian that Google wants its Daydream VR to have more content that will cut across all sections of society.
"Google investing in the space continues the momentum and growth we're all expecting," he said. "Google's Daydream will help advance mobile virtual reality. Mobile virtual reality is what's going to get the most people to strap things on their head."
According to the latest news, Google is enhancing its Daydream VR for improved head tracking, faster graphics processing and multiple sensors.
However, the same news article added that Google Daydream VR is not entirely leaving behind the highly lucrative gaming business. Apart from its investment on more third-party video games, it's also investing in talented video developers and filmmakers.
KnowYourMobile shared the news from International Data Corporation which predicted that VR and augmented reality industry will only escalate in the next few years. In fact, based on the forecast, 110 million AR and VR devices units will be shipped in five years time.
Tom Mainelli, vice president for Devices & Displays at IDC, said the arrival of Google Daydream VR will only mean good news for the content creators because it will expand their target market.
