Google Android 6.0 ‘M’ News: Search Engine Giant Promises More Privacy with Upcoming OS
Google has said that its upcoming operating system Android 6.0 'M' will offer more privacy for people by giving them more say in matters related to information that can be accessed by applications.
Bloomberg, reports that the upcoming operating system, which is scheduled to debut at Google IO 2015, will help users decide on what information is shared with particular applications, such as photos, contacts, and location. This is being considered as an evolution in Google's endeavor to bring more privacy and offer a peace of mind to its users.
However, iPhone users will certainly say that Google is lagging behind Apple's iOS in this regard. The search engine giant is experiencing more pressure from Apple now than ever, because the mobile market share of Android is waning in some regions of the world, whereas Apple's is growing. This new pressure from Apple, coupled with an ever-increasing demand for transparency in the Internet age, is pressing Google to usher privacy-centric changes.
While it is still not known as to the precise extent of control 'Android M' will offer, tech enthusiasts expect to learn more about it at Google's IO 2015 in San Francisco, California, later this month. However, Google will not launch Android 'M' only after a year from now, sources said.
Meanwhile, an earlier report said that Google is developing a new version of Android - the Android M, which will go straight into cars. A spokesman of the Mountain View-based tech titan told Reuters some time back that the new operating system won't require vehicles to be connected to smartphones to access the Internet.
Different from the existing in-car system of Google, Android Auto, apparently Android M will be completely independent of other devices.
For those interested, Google IO 2015 starts on May 28 at 9:30 am PST and 12:30 pm EST.
