Golden State Warriors NBA Trade News: Warriors Trade David Lee to Celtics for Gerald Wallace

After the Golden State Warriors won the championship, the team expressed that it would help find a suitable destination for veteran forward David Lee after the former All-Star saw his role diminish this past season. Marc Stein of ESPN reports that Lee's next home will be Boston as the Warriors have dealt the forward for the Celtics' Gerald Wallace. Ken Berger of CBS Sports notes that no other components are involved in the trade.

After suffering an injury in the preseason, Lee lost his starting spot to Draymond Green and never won it back. He totaled just 904 minutes in 49 games the entire regular season, and played sparingly in the playoffs.

In five seasons with the Warriors, Lee averaged 16.7 points and 9.3 rebounds while being a consistent double-double threat. For his career, he's averaged 14.7 points and 9.5 rebounds.

"The part of the business that sucks! Wish my big bro @Dlee042 nothing but the best and I appreciate you showing me the way Champ!!! Much love," Green tweeted.

"It's tough to see my big bro D Lee go, Boston gotta great player and true pro. A true vet who looked out for me and all the young guys. I'm not alone in saying this but DubNation is gonna miss u my man!" Klay Thompson wrote on Instagram.

Lee is going into the last year of the six-year, $80 million deal he signed with the Warriors back in the summer of 2010 and is due to make $15.4 million next season. By trading Lee, the Warriors' payroll will fall below $100 million next season, which, as noted by ESPN, would net a luxury-tax savings of close to $20 million. Golden State could further augment their savings if they waive Wallace and use the stretch provision on his contract.

Lee joins a rebuilding Celtics team that recently acquired forward Amir Johnson from the Toronto Raptors. Both will be competing with other Celtic big men Kelly Olynyk, Tyler Zeller, and Jared Sullinger for starting spots.
