Golden State Warriors NBA 2015 News: Klay Thompson Diagnosed with Concussion, Out Indefinitely

A day after Klay Thompson's agent Billy Duffy said that his client did not have a concussion, the Golden State Warriors announced that the All-Star shooting guard has been diagnosed with a concussion two days after taking a knee to the right side of his head.

"Following extensive examinations over the last two days"”including neurological tests earlier this morning"”Warriors' guard Klay Thompson has been diagnosed with a concussion," the team's announcement read. "He will not return to the court until he is symptom-free and cleared under the NBA's concussion protocol guidelines. He will be evaluated daily and there is no timetable for his return."

As pointed out by Ball Don't Lie, after going to the locker room following the hit, ESPN's Doris burke reported that Thompson had suffered a right ear laceration and did not have to go through the concussion protocol.

The Warriors, though, said that after the game the Splash Brother went through a concussion medical evaluation, but still wasn't diagnosed with a concussion until two days later.

"I'm glad we got a full battery of tests," Duffy wrote in a text to USA TODAY's Sam Amick.

Thompson can only return to action if he completes a series of tests that include "several steps of increasing exertion"”from a stationary bike, to jogging, to agility work, to non-contact team drill," according to the league's protocol.

"With each step, a player must be symptom free to move to the next step. If a player is not symptom free after a step, he stops until he is symptom free and begins again at the previous step of the protocol."

The Warriors don't start the NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers until Thursday, June 4.

"I just do what the doctors say we should do," Warriors coach Steve Kerr was quoted after Friday's practice. "Obviously, we want to be as careful as possible and make sure our players are safe and sound and healthy. So we'll follow this protocol that the league provides and we'll have Klay out there when he's ready."
