Golden Globe 2016 Nominations Update: Nominees Revealed

The Golden Globe Awards is upcoming and the line up of the nominees have been revealed.

According to the official Golden Globes website, the nominees for the Best Director - Motion Picture are "Carol's" Todd Haynes, "The Revenant's" Alejandro Inarritu, "Spotlight's" Tom McCarthy, "Mad Max: Fury Road's" George Miller," and "The Martan's" Ridley Scott.

For the Best Screenplay - Motion Picture, the nominees include "The Hateful Eight's" Quentin Tarantino, "Steve Jobs'" Aaron Sorkin, "The Big Short's" Charles Randolph and Adam McKay," "Spotlight's" McCarthy and Josh Singer, and "Room's" Emma Donoghue.

Lining up for the Best Original Score - Motion Picture are "Carol's" Carter Burwell, "The Danish Girl's" Alexandre Desplat, "The Hateful Eight's" Ennio Morricone, "Steve Jobs" Daniel Pemberton, and "The Revenant's" Ryuichi Sakamoto and Alva Noto.

For the Best Drama Television Series, the nominees are "Empire," "Game of Thrones," "Mr. Robot," "Narcos," and "Outlander."

The nominees for the Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy include "The Big Short's" Christian Bale and Steve Carell, "The Martian's" Matt Damon, "Danny Collins'" Al Pacino, and "Infinitely Polar Bear's" Mark Ruffalo.

On the other hand, the nominees for the Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy are "Joy's" Jennifer Lawrence, "Spy's" Melissa McCarthy, "Trainwreck's" Amy Schumer, "The Lady in the Van's" Maggie Smith, and "Grandmas's" Lily Tomlin.

In the Drama category, the Best Actor nominees are "Trumbo's" Bryan Cranston, "The Revenant's" Leonardo De Carpio, "Steve Jobs''" Michael Fassbender, "The Danish Girl's" Eddie Redmayne, and "Concussion's" Will Smith.

For Best Actress in the Drama Category, the nominees are "Carol's" Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, "The Danish Girl's" Alicia Vikander, "Room's" Brie Larson, and "Brooklyn's" Saoirse Ronan.

The nominees for Best Motion Picture in Musical or Comedy category are "The Big Short," "Joy," "The Martian," "Spy," and "Trainwreck." In the drama Category, the nominees are "Spotlight," "Room," "The Revenant," "Mad Max: Fury Road," and "Carol."

For the Oscar race, J.J. Abrams' space sci-fi film "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" is assumed to line up with "mainstream hits," according to Entertainment Weekly, such as Miller's action adventure "Mad Max: Fury Road," Scott's space sci-fi film "The Martian," and F. Gary Gray's musical biopic "Straight Outta Compton."

The Golden Globe Awards will be on Jan. 10, 2016.
