'Girls' Season 6 News Update: Premiere To Air Early Next Year; Six Season To Be The Series' Last?
"Girls" season 6 is likely to premiere early next year and is going to polish off the storylines of Hannah, Marnie, Jessa and Shoshanna.
The first season of the series premiered in 2012 and has captured the hearts of its audiences because of its realistic depiction of the lives of girls in their 20's. Now that lead stars Hannah, Marnie, Jessa and Shoshanna are already close to being in their 30's, the creator of the series has decided that it is about time for "Girls" to finally drop the curtain.
Series creator, executive producer and star Lena Dunham said she had always envisioned the series to end after season 6 "to keep momentum" and "avoid dragging out storylines."
"It is about this really incredibly specific period in these women's lives. Just on a personal level, I was 23 when I wrote the pilot; I'm gonna be 30 as we shoot the sixth season. And it just felt as though, if we were to continue on, it wouldn't be about what it was originally about," said Dunham.
While season 6 has already been confirmed and has long been planned to be the show's last, producers of the show have yet to decide on its storyline.
In a statement, actor Alex Karpovsky revealed that storylines will only begin to take form as soon as the production on season 6 gets underway.
The HBO has not yet announced the official premiere date for the final season, but there are rumors that it will be in early 2017 and will air alongside "Vinyl."
