'Ghostbusters' Reboot Cast News: Actress Emma Stone Explains Why She Turned Down the Role
Paul Feig's much anticipated female reboot of 'Ghostbusters' carries an almost perfect cast according to fans, as it now currently sports Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones in the lead roles.
It was recently rumored that Emma Stone would have a spot on the cast, and while it is now apparent that she won't be in the film, it has been confirmed that she was offered a spot. She evidently passed on the role and in a recent interview with Wall Street Journal, she explains her decision:
"The script was really funny. It just didn't feel like the right time for me. A franchise is a big commitment-it's a whole thing. I think maybe I need a minute before I dive back into that water."
The actress is most likely referring to Sony's 'The Amazing Spider-Man' franchise that was fairly short-lived due to the property getting picked up by Marvel. Franchises can eat a lot at an actor's time and disable them from exploring other projects, so its pretty logical why Stone may be steering away from them for now.
New details on the 'Ghostbusters' film have also come out of the Boston Herald that tells fans what they expect from the movie. It reads:
"Wiig and McCarthy play a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. Flash forward a few years and Wiig lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia U. (Like the original, the story takes place in New York City, even though it's being shot in Boston.) Which is pretty sweet, until her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia. Wiig reunites with McCarthy and the other two proton pack-packing phantom wranglers, and she gets some sweet revenge when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world."
The film is scheduled to premiere July 22, 2016.
