Gear VR 2 News: Pre-orders Are Now Available on Amazon
The Gear VR 2 was launched last week along with the Galaxy Note. And good news for high-end Samsung smartphone users: pre-orders are now available on Amazon.
The device is only compatible with Galaxy Note 7, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Plus and Galaxy Note 5. In terms of the suitability, however, the Gear VR is best mated to the Note 5 just because it has the best display among the Samsung lineup right now. After all, there's a reason why it's the cheapest: it relies on the smartphone display.
But the South Korean company has said previously that it's working on a standalone Gear VR.
"We are working on wireless and dedicated VR devices, not necessarily working with our mobile phone," Injong Rhee, Samsung's head of R&D for software, said.
In related news, the Samsung Gear VR 2, despite being the cheapest headset out there, has a very expansive library of titles that you can enjoy, thanks to the Oculus store. Not many people know it, but the device actually uses Oculus technology.
According to this review, the wearer can wax nostalgic with the slew of SNES games available on the Gear VR 2. Of course, there's also "Minecraft," which was first released to the second-generation device. That title alone is worth the price of admission for the headset. Although, it must be noted that the title is available in Oculus Rift as well.
Watch out for more news regarding the Samsung Gear VR 2 and the titles that will be added into the headset. We will publish them whenever new information comes along.
