'Game of Thrones' Series Spoilers, News: Producer Says TV Show Will Deviate from George R.R Martin's Novels [VIDEO]

The inevitable dilemma about book and TV series continuity has been a pressing issue for the 'Game of Thrones' franchise and George R.R. Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' novels.

The show has been steadily catching up to the books and the simple fact is that Martin won't be able to publish his books in time to keep up with the show's schedule. The series will have to go on without the author's guidance from the original series.

Series' executive producer David Benioff has finally addressed this issue while talking in the Oxford Union. He described the situation as his team being stuck "between a rock and a hard place," he states:

"Luckily, we've been talking about this with George [R.R. Martin] for a long time... and we know where things are heading. So, we'll eventually meet up at pretty much the same place where George is going. There might be a few deviations along the route, but we're heading towards the same destination."

The show plans to conclude the same way as the books but will have to end before them. He explains:

"We can't put the show on hiatus... We can't take a two-year break 'cause you know these guys are in demand and they are going to go off and do other stuff. So, we kind of have to keep pushing forward."

This isn't exactly great news for faithful book readers who also watch the show, but in the end it ultimately comes down to what will bring in more money.

"The show must go on," Benioff concludes with.
