'Game Of Thrones' Season 7 Spoilers, Release Date: UFC Star Conor McGregor Going To Play Pirate Role

UFC star Conor McGregor will make an appearance on "Game of Thrones" when the series returns next year.

Last week, news broke that McGregor would join the cast of the popular series in a mysterious role. This week, his role was finally unveiled. Based on reports, the UFC star's role is more of a cameo or a short-term gig than a full-time part.

In the upcoming series, McGregor will play the role of a pirate in Euron Greyjoy's crew on the ship Silence.

Since he will be playing a cameo role, it remains to be seen if his appearance will last through the next two seasons of the series, or at least last longer than Ian McShane.

According to reports, the creators of the series have been courting McGregor for quite a while to join the "Game of Thrones" cast, but it was only last week that UFC boss Dana White confirmed the martial artist's involvement in the upcoming series.

"I knew that a few months ago that they were interested in putting him in the show. I'm glad he did it. It'll be great. The show is huge--it's awesome. I'm excited for him," said White.

While little is known about McGregor's role, fans can expect his character to be a tough one, especially since he has already had a fight with "Game of Thrones" zombie warrior The Mountain in real life.

"Game of Thrones" is set to return in summer of 2017. It will air on HBO in the United States and Sky Atlantic in the United Kingdom.
