'Game Of Thrones' Season 7 Spoilers, News: Seventh Season Premieres Too Late For Emmy Awards

"Game of Thrones" season 7 will premiere too late to be considered for the 2017 Emmy Awards. This was confirmed by HBO programming president Casey Bloys, who revealed a great deal of information about the series during his talk at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour.

Aside from the delayed premiere of season 7, Bloys also revealed that season 8 will be the last for the series.

"Yes, I think the showrunners have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do," he told TV Line and The Hollywood Reporter.

"If I could get them to do more, I would take 10 seasons but we want to take their lead with what they could do and what the best version of the show is," he added.

Talking about their spinoff plans, Bloys said it's not something he's opposed to, but it has to "make sense creatively."

"I'm not sure the guys can wrap their heads around it when they are about to start production. We're open to it, the guys aren't opposed to it but there's no concrete plans right now," he said.

On the 2017 Emmys, the executive noted that they're not after the awards, but being able to please their subscribers and fans.

"The Emmy fallout is just something we have to live with," he said.

"Game of Thrones" season 7 production is getting underway in Belfast soon. Filming for the upcoming season will continue until February.

The new season has seven episodes and is expected to return next summer.
