'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Spoilers, News: Filming Locations in Spain for GoT Revealed
A desert in Navarre and castles in Santa Florentina, will be some of the locations in Spain for the filming of Game of Thrones season 6.
Production of the sixth season of the television series has not begun as of yet, and casting for extras has been going on for the past few weeks.
According to a report from Variety, HBO has confirmed that filming locations in Spain will include the Bardenas badlands in Navarre, castles in Santa Florentina and Zafra, and the Alcazaba fort in Almeria.
This news has been confirmed by Ani Bundel, of Winter is Coming, who has noted that a French premium cable channel has identified these locations in a news release.
The report also says that one of the sites, Castillo de Santa Florentina, is a medieval castle and the estate covers about 49 acres.
Bundel adds that filming at this location for season six of Game of Thrones is an amazing opportunity, and those who get to be a part of that production process are lucky.
It is still not clear which part of the fantasy world will include the castles, but the report speculates that it may be either Dorne or a part of Essos.
Bundel also said that the structures at Zafra Castle reminded her of the Tower of Joy, where Rhaegar Targaryen kept Lyanna Stark during Robert Baratheon's rebellion.
A report by Watchers on the Wall also points out that each new location for the television series makes fans of the novels hope that they will see the flashback scene at Tower of Joy.
Season six of Game of Thrones is set to begin in April of 2016.
