'Game of Thrones' Season 5 Air Date, Spoilers: Author & Producers Stray From Books' Storyline

Since the HBO's release of the first episode of Game of Thrones in 2011, fans of the show know not to get attached to characters. George R.R. Martin, who writes the books that inspired the TV show, hints that some characters that might die in Season 5 don't die in his books.

As far as Season 5 is concerned, Martin said in an interview at the Writers Guild West Awards, "People are going to die who don't die in the books, so even the book readers will be unhappy."

"Everybody better be on their toes," Martin added, "[Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss] are even bloodier than I am."

The show has picked up a sixth season from HBO, but whether or not the show will continue after that season is still uncertain. "Television is a very changeable medium," Martin said in an interview with Showbiz411.

The TV show, based of Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire," translated the books really well, starting with the first series. The show has won over 20 Emmys since its first episode, most of the awards being in the creative category.

Game of Thrones is a medieval fantasy epic series written by George R.R. Martin. The books are set in the fictional land of Westeros where many families of noble stature fight for power. At the Writers Guild West Awards, Martin hinted of his progress of his last two books. They will be called "The Winds of Winter" and "The Dream of Spring."

Games of Thrones will air its fifth season on April 12, 2015.
