'Game of Thrones' Season 4 Premieres on IMAX: Final Two Episodes Hit Big Screen
The producers behind hit HBO show, 'Game of Thrones', made a bold move recently, as they've signed a new deal with IMAX.
Starting January 23, 2015, the last two episodes of 'Game of Thrones' Season 4 will be screened in 150 theaters, along with a preview for the upcoming Season 5. The showings will run until January 29th.
The episodes will be remastered, but essentially old content that has already been screened on television. This idea is basically enabling the show to build off of it's already massive fanbase.
HBO's chief marketing officer Pamela Levine stated in regards to the announcement, "The cinematic brilliance and grand scope of the series is perfect for the IMAX format. We are always looking to provide fans with new and exciting ways to experience the show and viewing two key episodes, along with the new trailer, on such an impressive platform makes for a great event."
The final two episodes of 'Game of Thrones' Season 4 happens to be some of the most viable television content that could be worth seeing in IMAX.
"'Game of Thrones' is one of the few television shows that has the scope and cinematic qualities to really support the Imax format," said Pamela Levine.
It has been referenced that IMAX has interest in expanding the kind of content they show in their theaters.
"For Imax, the 'Game of Thrones' screening is part of an effort to expand the type of programming it shows beyond its core theatrical releases, especially as the North American box office faces tumbling sale," NY Times writes.
Adding, "The company has had preliminary conversations with other entertainment companies about showing other television series and also has tested technologies allowing for the screening of live sports. Music concerts also are on the table, said Richard L. Gelfond, chief executive of Imax."
