'Game of Thrones' Book Spoilers, News: George R.R. Martin Says Stannis is Alive in His Next Book
It was revealed since last year that the 'Game of Thrones' series and book series that its based off will soon depart and go their separate ways due to the show surpassing it.
Not many fans knew if this has already occurred per the 'Game of Thrones' fifth season, however George R.R. Martin has just confirmed that there is already a huge difference between the two series.
Martin recently answered a fan question on his LiveJournal this week that asked him if Stannis is alive in his next book in which he answers, "In my books? Alive, beyond a doubt."
The last season finale of 'Game of Thrones' certainly marked the death of that centerpiece character at the hands of the Brienne character. The death scene was quite ambiguous in the way it was cut, but showrunner David Nutter recently confirmed him dying at this year's Comic-Con.
"From the very beginning, and [through] the script process, that was the intent - he's dead," Nutter said.
"In the books, however, no battle scene is depicted - at least not yet. Because the chapters shift points of view, the only "news" of what happened at Winterfell when Stannis' men tried to take the castle from Ramsay Bolton came from a letter Ramsay sent Jon Snow claiming the Boltons won and Stannis died," writes EW.
Could this mean some drastic changes in narrative from the show and books already? Neither Martin or the 'Game of Thrones' showrunners would mislead their viewers by lying to them, despite some not being able to accept that Jon Snow has indefinitely died in the series.
