‘Gambit’ New Movie News, Update: Léa Seydoux to Appear Opposite Channing Tatum in ‘X-Men’ Spin-Off Movie
Léa Seydoux will be seen opposite Channing Tatum in the upcoming 'X-Men' spin-off movie. According to Deadline, the actress will be portraying the character of Bella Donna Boudreaux.
According to IB Times, apparently a few actresses were contending for the desired role in the 20th Century Fox film rooted in the Marvel characters, but eventually the shortlist comprised just three performers - Seydoux, Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road) and Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation).
Meanwhile, Ferguson has recently signed on for DreamWorks' adaptation of 'The Girl On The Train,' a psychological thriller novel. Hence, it seems she was immediately out of contention in spite of the fact that a test for the actress for the part was prepared for the actress.
According to the 'X-Men' comics, Bella Donna was Gambit's childhood love interest though unknown to them; they belong to rival groups, the Thieves Guild and the Assassin. This causes major problems for the two friends as they grew older.
Sydoux has earlier starred in many French films and also done predominantly smaller roles like the one in 2011 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.' She rose to fame in Palmes d'Or winner 'Blue Is The Warmest Colour' when the movie premiered in 2013. In fact, this was the first film at the Cannes festival to award the honor to both its director Abdellatif Kechiche as well as the two leads - Seydoux and Adèle Exarchopoulos.
Following this, Sydoux stepped into mainstream Hollywood, and landed roles in the Oscar-winning movie 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' and 'The Lobster,' prior to bagging a part in the upcoming James Bond film 'Spectre.'
While a comic-book movie would be something very different from the kind of films Sydoux has done before, but the actress should take the risk. While the genre does not essentially seem to be the place for award-winning performers, the latest inclusion to the Marvel Cinematic Universe like Ben Kingsley, Ryan Reynolds and Michael Fassbender, in addition to Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Tilda Swinton, who will be appearing in 'Doctor Strange' set for release in 2016, suggests that they are also eager to pursue actors who are able to deliver appealing and more cerebral performances these days.
