'Gambit' News: How Channing Tatum Is Preparing his Role as the X-Men Character

Hot off the tail of his most recent film 'Magic Mike XXL,' Channing Tatum plans to get fully underway with his highly anticipated 'Gambit' project.

The movie seemed to have some initial trouble in the beginning with finding a director, however Tatum has finally locked down Rupert Wyatt to lead the solo X-Men film.

"Yeah, that we'll shoot that in the fall, we'll probably start that in late October/November in New Orleans. Rupert Wyatt is our director, he's pretty cool," Tatum said in an interview with Screenrant. "I think the script is really good. To be honest, I don't watch big movies for pleasure a lot, but this script convinced me that we should be making this movie."

Aside from this, fans haven't heard much in what the star is doing in preparation for the role. There are many notable aspects about Gambit's character which leaves a lot to be desired of the actor portraying him.

Tatum did however recently confirm that he's enlisted a friend to help him with the various card throwing skills he'll need for the character.

"Last night we were with my friend who I went to college with, this guy David Kwong who is an incredible magician and he was teaching Chan how to throw cards and do slight of hand and all that," Tatum said. "So we're producing that and I'm mostly just writing stuff, both things are female-driven but they're totally different kinds of stories."

The actor has gone off to say that the movie will use a new formula to tell the classic superhero tale. We have yet to figure out what story the movie will embellish.

'Gambit' plans to premiere in theaters on October 7, 2016.
