'Gambit' Cast News: Channing Tatum to Walk Away From Project
Fans who were patiently awaiting to see actor Channing Tatum portray the role as the titular X-Men character Gambit, may want to not get their hopes up too high.
It has recently been reported by The Wrap, that the project is "in jeopardy," and while the unknown source hasn't disclosed the core issue, Tatum has been rumored to be walking away from the project. This could possibly mean the project will be trashed indefinitely, or the actor will no longer be playing the title character.
Tatum however is still currently attached as the producer, so even if the role was recasted he would still have a heavy hand in how it was made.
"The studio had been in the process of testing young actresses to star alongside Tatum, including Lea Seydoux, but insiders suggest that director Rupert Wyatt will soon have to find a new leading man.
"It is unclear whether Tatum and his producing partner Reid Carolin plan to remain involved in a producing capacity, or whether Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner will move forward on their own," writes The Wrap.
'Gambit' has been described as a passion project for the actor, so to see him walk away from it is quite surprising for spectators. He recently surprised fans at San Diego's Comic-Con to help promote the film that hasn't yet shot any footage.
"In a recent Grantland profile, Carolin said that he and Tatum are planning to make their directorial debut soon, so it's possible that the star's desire to segue behind the camera is factoring into his decision. The actor also slated to star in "23 Jump Street" for Sony," writes The Wrap.
The film was originally slated for October 7, 2016, however due to the recent news that remains to be determined.
