'Gambit' New Movie News: Film has Trouble Locking Down a Director
In recent interviews it has been evident that Channing Tatum is well on board to portray the titular X-Men character Gambit on the big screen, however there seems to be one crucial element he's missing.
It appears that many high profile directors have declined to helm the 'Gambit' solo film. Details as to why have not yet been revealed.
Channing Tatum along with the comic book character Gambit are both fairly bankable. Superhero movies in general are very lucrative right now, but they are however very delicate in executing correctly.
"Tatum is a smart guy. Surely he knows how easy it is to screw up a superhero movie. He knows that the best movies in this genre have been made by people with strong visions. And that's why he (supposedly) went after Darren Aronfosky, who had previously been courted by Hugh Jackman for The Wolverine. When that didn't work out, he went to Bennett Miller, who had directed Tatum to much acclaim in Foxcatcher, but he also declined," writes Screen Crush.
Tatum's bad luck seemed to travel into this recent week when two more directors declined the offer.
"In the latest episode of the Meet the Movie Press podcast, it was revealed that Gareth Evans (The Raid) and J.C. Chandor (A Most Violent Year) have also been approached, but neither bit," writes Screen Crush.
The directors that Tatum is approaching are all very seasoned, so he's at least concerned with making this a quality movie.
According to Tatum, they have a script finished and are looking to avoid the whole "saving the world" spin on the movie.
'Gambit' is slated for October 2016, so the project will have to begin filming soon.
