Galaxy S4 Android 5.0 Lollipop Update Release Date: Samsung Launching OS in Phases

After the release of the Android update 5.0 Lollipop by its developers, Samsung has been releasing the OS to Galaxy S4 users, in phases.

The first handsets to receive the updates were the Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 (with Exynos 5 Octa-core CPU) in Russia, and now the Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE has received the update in Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany, according to the Samsung community blog, Sam Mobile.

Reportedly, the update was available only for sim-free devices in these said European countries. As of now, the update is available only over the air, and it is still not available through Samsung Kies or for manual download for Galaxy S4 GT-I9500, but surprisingly, the update is available through KIES for Galaxy S4 LTE-A.

This new update looks like it is going to use up much space and the owners of these handsets are advised to free at least 3GB memory on the device for the new OS installation, as it has been reported the firmware is more than 1GB in size.

Not just the massive memory requirement, the update also seems to cause inconvenience by removing some apps like Google Play, Books, Movies and a few others, for reasons that are said to be for optimization. However, one can always re-install them after the update is completed.

In other news, the update has already been released on Samsung Galaxy S5 by Sprint. Surprisingly, Samsung's flagship devices, Galaxy Note 4 and Note 3 still haven't received the update, while the update was already rolled to Google's Nexus users towards the end of last year, according to Gotta Be Mobile.
