Samsung Galaxy Note 7 News, Update: Woes Mount For South Korean Firm?

The woes for Samsung after the Galaxy Note 7 recall and the bad news on the replacement battery continue to mount as the South Korean firm is reportedly putting a stop in production temporarily.

It's not clear how long this freeze will last, but Yonhap news agency claimed to have talked to the source who confirmed this recent development.

The Guardian reported that this news update is indeed another blow to Samsung following the Galaxy Note 7 recall and the ensuing controversy brought about by the faulty replacement battery. So far, the estimated number of units shipped back reached at least 2.5 million.

Meanwhile, US mobile carriers have also announced that they will stop selling the Galaxy Note 7 because of the worrisome reports on batteries that have caused fire and casualties to owners.

In announcing the freeze on sales, AT&T and T-Mobile said they have noted the Galaxy Note 7 recall and the replacement battery that did not address the problem.

The NY Times said the halt in production was revealed by Samsung in a disclosure to the stock exchange on Monday. The disclosure said the company is "temporarily adjusting the Galaxy Note 7 production schedule in order to take further steps to ensure quality and safety matters."

While no schedule is forthcoming when it will resume production, the South Korean firm said it will provide news update within this month.

Multiple news reports said the Galaxy Note recall, and the replacement battery woes, will cost Samsung upwards of $5 billion.
