'Galavant' Series Premiere Recap, Spoilers: Catchy Tunes Keep Fans Excited & Wanting More

The new series, 'Galavant', on ABC may have only aired two episodes, but the "four-week comedy extravaganza" has already captured the interest and loyalty of several musical-lovers, including popular journalists Hillary Busis and Esther Zuckerman.

"I didn't think I would, but maybe now I could, want a second season of Galavant," Esther commented, "It won't make big bucks but there's a kind of charm to Galavant!"

The medieval musical is a mix of the films 'Robin Hood: Men in Tights' and 'The Princess Bride' with a lot of jokes reminiscent of the comedic classics. Despite its familiar, almost cheesy humor, 'Galavant' is drawing in audiences with its catchy songs.

The ABC series tells the story of a freelance knight named Sir Galavant. This hilarious hero is on a quest to rescue his girlfriend and reclaim Princess Isabella of Valencia's lands from the dastardly King Richard. It features famous comedy personalities like Ricky Gervais and Timothy Omundson.

While reportedly cliché, many of the show's songs have become fast fan favorites already. 'Galavant', the opening song, begins the story with a rabble-rouser. Its naively arrogant air makes the song as funny as it is memorable. Already, the lyric video has received over 40,000 views on YouTube.

Esther sums up the premiere's musical magnificence perfectly: "The songs aren't particularly original or clever, but at least one is ridiculously catchy - the 'Galavant' refrain from the first number keeps popping in my head."

As you watch the episodes, you will see that not everything is as fairy tale as its introduction made it seem. Even if you can't watch the show for its story or its music, you could just watch it for its entertaining characters.
