G4 Network Shut Down: NBC Universal Pulls the Plug on TV Channel November 30

NBC Universal has finally decided to shutdown G4 TV, once and for all, on November 30. News about the cancellation did not come as a surprise to many as the network has long since been lackluster.

According to their official blog post, "Great Plains Communications will be removing G4 from the channel lineup, effective November 30, 2014. We apologize for the inconvenience, but would like to remind you that this was a decision made by NBC Universal and we must abide by their contractual requirements."

In light of this, some fans of the network are left wondering why this decision was made so conclusively, as the network is known to air some unique and well liked programs.

On that note, and following the latest trend in programming that's aired by the channel, re-runs and dated episodes are all that really airs.

Beyond that, at one point the network was preparing for a re-launch as Esquire Network, but news about that broke saying the deal had fallen through. Instead of replacing G4, NBC Universal chose to replace Style with Esquire instead.

Looking at the charts, many households with cable are receiving G4, but without any new and original programming, it doesn't reel in much viewership. According to a report, approximately 61,217,000 American households (53.61% of households with television) were receiving G4 in August, 2013.

Moving on, user via Reddit chimed in with their comments about NBC Universal's decision to shut down G4 TV.

Many users agreed with this post, "The decline of that channel after being merged with (the superior, IMO) Tech Tv, was just shameful. I stopped watching years ago, and even then, every time I turned it on they were playing an episode of 'Cops'. Screen Savers 4 life."

Evidently, many users felt that since the network had decided to sway from its original target audience, it had basically dug its own grave.

One user wrote, "When you decide you no longer want the gaming and tech crowd on your channel and instead run cops 24/7 that [cancellation] tends to happen."
