Daniel John "D.J." Caruso, Jr. of "Disturbia" and "Eagle Eye" fame will reportedly be directing the upcoming feature film - "G.I. Joe 3."

Caruso will reportedly start working on the franchise after the completion of the thriller "The Disappointment Room" with lead star Kate Beckinsale. Paramount is reportedly hoping to finalize the deal with the director who is just having "early discussions" for the third "G.I. Joe" installment.

The director is well known for helming movies with darker themes such as "Taking Lives" with Angelina Jolie and Ethan Hawke. Some of his films such as "I Am Number Four" with Alex Pettyfer have similar problems with "G.I. Joe" movies in terms of worn out plots and unoriginal action scenes.

Based on Caruso's track record, Paramount can most probably be assured that the director can present a competent "G.I. Joe 3" that will reportedly be even better than the prequels. On another note, reports say that some fans may not be highly satisfied with how Caruso will attack the upcoming film.

Before Caruso, there were several rumored filmmakers who will direct the film including Martin Campbell from "Casino Royale."

Campbell's track record is not flawless as well but he delivered good films such as "Golden Eye" and "Edge of Darkness."

Initially, director Jon M. Chu from "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" was supposed to continue with the third installment but he opted to work on "Now You See Me: The Second Act." After that, the "G.I. Joe 3" screenplay was rewritten by Jonathan Lemkin .

The director is not the only part that is new in the film but it will also highlight Roadblock played by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Spoilers say that "G.I Joe 3" will focus on one solo character than the usual ensemble. In the second installment, Johnson became more of the protagonist as he made the lead Duke portrayed by Channing Tatum his best buddy.

There is no official release date for "G.I. Joe 3" as of this time but spoilers say it is slated for 2016.
