'Furious 7' Release Date, Spoilers News: Trailer Used CGI or Real Car Drop? [VIDEO]
Many people debated whether the car drop from the seventh installment of The Fast and Furious series was real or CGI. In a featurette released from the film makers, they and other crew members put the rumors to rest as they explained how they actually did drop five cars out of an airplane and safely land on the ground.
Jack Gill, one of the of the stunt coordinators said, "On Fast, we always try and go the little extra mile and try and push a little further than we normally would."
The team ended up dropping five sports cars out of a C-130 Hercules aircraft at 12,000 feet and the parachutes attached to each car opened up at about 5,000 feet. The cars were dropping at around 130-140 miles per hour.
Along with the vehicles were three camera flyers, who had to maneuver their way around the cars to get the shots the directors were looking for. In the video clip, the flyers explained how tricky it was when the cars had minds of their own, making it difficult to get the shots needed.
Other factors such as skydivers and other aircrafts made shooting difficult. However, with the precise calculations from the crew, they were able to get the shots necessary to make a great and highly anticipated scene.
"It was one of the most exciting moments I've ever had in my life ever," said Spiro Razatos, the 2nd unit director for the film.
Furious 7 stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Lucas Black, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Elsa Pataky and the late Paul Walker.
The seventh Fast and Furious film will release in theaters on April 3.
