‘Frozen 2’ Release Date: Production Currently Underway, Idina Menzel Says - Releases New Christmas Album 2014
Idina Menzel, who voiced Elsa in Walt Disney Pictures' film 'Frozen', said that a sequel to the animated film is currently underway.
The "Let It Go" singer talked about the sequel during an interview with the Telegraph, when she confirmed the upcoming projects following the first film, which will include a sequel film and a stage musical.
"They're all in the works," Menzel said with a laugh.
She denied her involvement in the musical and simply said she was hopeful to be called back and participate in the sequel. For now though, she said she was "going along for the ride."
She credited the success of 'Frozen' to the bond between sisters Elsa and Anna. She said it was easier to have them both dislike each other, than the opposite.
"It's women depending on each other. It's a bond between them, not with a man," she said to Telegraph.
'Once Upon A Time' actress Georgina Haig, who plays Elsa in the television series, also told IGN that she believed that a sequel was being planned by Disney.
On that note, 'Frozen' earned a worldwide total of $1.27 billion over 34 weeks in 2013.
It is currently ranked as the highest grossing animated film of all time, the fifth highest grossing film of all time and went on to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. It continues to rake in more cash with its line of merchandise.
Beyond that, an animated short titled 'Frozen Fever' is set to be released sometime in 2015 alongside an another, still unconfirmed, Disney film. It will tell the story of how Anna and Elsa celebrate Anna's birthday.
Moving on, Menzel recently released a Christmas album titled 'Holiday Wishes'.
The singer puts her own spin on several classical holiday songs, such as "When You Wish Upon A Star," "White Christmas," a duet of "Baby It's Cold Outside," with Michael Buble, and more.
