'Friday the 13th' New Series News, Rumors: TV Show to to Re-Imagine Jason Voorhees & Crystal Lake
More info has recently been revealed about a 'Friday the 13th' TV series that was announced not too long ago.
Not much was said about it then, but now, the news comes straight from the mouth of the franchise creator, Sean Cunningham. Him and other franchise alumni held a Q&A at the Monster Mania convention in New Jersey. An insider from Fridaythe13thfranchise.com attended and reported what Cunningham revealed:
"Sean Cunningham confirmed interest from the CW in regards to pickup for the tv show. According to him, the basic premise focuses on the REAL city of Crystal Lake, and the effect that the serialized films had on its real life counterpart. This allows them to reimagine Jason in a more grounded reality, as the films would be based off the real life killings that took place at the Camp. (ie, both the Hockey Masked Jason and a more serious backwoods inspired killer will be making appearances throughout)."
It seems that this spin-off show will really be focusing on the theory of Jason Voorhees and not his actual character. This gives them quite a wide scope to work with.
Horror television shows have also been making quite the comeback, so there might be a place for the series yet. However, it hasn't yet been given a release date and the CW has only stated its interest in the idea, so there is no confirmed network.
