'Friday' Re-Release News: Fan Favorite Ice Cube Film to Appear in Theaters for 20th Anniversary
Fans of the cult comedy film are in for a treat with the theatrical re-release of the film 'Friday' on April 20th.
"The Ice Cube and Chris Tucker masterpiece, originally released in April 1995, is back for just that one night, through Fathom Events. Superfans, take note: Fathom is showing the Director's Cut, which has never before been seen in theaters. They'll also show Friday Straight Up, a special featurette packed with interviews and stories from the cast," writes EW.
The film was debatably the breakout film of comedian Chris Tucker's career and also spawned two sequels, 'Next Friday', and 'Friday After Next'.
The film followed two young men on their Friday afternoon in South Central and the shenanigans that follow when they owe local drug dealer Big Worm $200.
Ice Cube sat down with Buzzfeed to release this statement on the film's 20th anniversary re-release:
"For the theaters, for New Line [Cinema], for the fans to want to pay homage to the movie in this way is cool. It lets you know how much people appreciate it and how much fun it is ... and it lets you know that Friday is now a part of the American fabric."
