'X-Files' Reboot Series News: Fox in Talks About Bringing Back Sci-Fi Crime Thriller
It has been reported by Fox that the network is in serious discussions about bringing the hit '90s sci-fi crime thriller, 'The X-Files', back on the air for a reboot.
Fox chairman and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman have confirmed that they've been in talks with the series' creator, Chris Carter, about bringing the show back, noting the success it had in its run from 1993 to 2002. Fox is also interested in having the original star duo, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprise their roles on the reboot.
In a TCA panel, Walden stated:
"Gary and I both worked [at 20th Century Fox Television] through the entire run of The X Files. It was a great experience. We've maintained good relationships with Chris, David and Gillian. We're very hopeful, but it's hard. The actors are very busy. They have a lot going on. Chris has a lot on his plate, so it's just trying to carve out the time."
Duchovny has a 13 episode limited series, "Aquarius," airing on NBC in the near future, and Anderson has been working on "The Fall" for the BBC, along with a big role in the next season of "Hannibal" for NBC.
For this to be a possibility, both actors would have to cleared to their commitments with NBC, especially since it's a competing network with Fox.
Along with a "X-Files" reboot, there was some discussion about bringing "Prison Break" on for another season.
Newman stated:
"There is some speculation in the press about Prison Break, which honestly was slightly news to us. Although we've made it clear over the years to the studio that we would bring Prison Break back in a heartbeat. It's probably the perfect event series. If our old partners in that show are interested, that would be great."
Actors Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller are both currently doing work as villains on CW's "The Flash".
