Florida State Seminoles News 2014: Jimbo Fisher's New Eigth-Year Contract Extension

Last Tuesday afternoon, Florida State University announced that its beloved coach, Jimbo Fisher, has been awarded a new contract extension "that will make him one of college football's highest paid coaches."

The contract will bump Fisher's salary to almost $5 million per year, including incentives. In the new deal, Fisher feels honored to be the head coach, and calls the FSU program "one of the best programs in the country."

In a release, Fisher said, "Florida State is a very special place. I appreciate the support of the administration in accomplishing some great things. We have improved in a number of areas over the years, and the commitment to providing the very best in academics, facilities and maturation and growth opportunities for our young men has been key to our success. I look forward to continuing to build on what we are establishing."

On a side note, the Seminoles are 58-10 since Fisher replaced Bobby Bowden. Last year, FSU quarterback Jameis Winston won the Heisman Trophy under Fisher's lead. The team currently has a school record 29-game streak. Last year, they won the national championship.

However, Jameis Winston isn't the only football star to be found by Fisher. Fisher has hand-selected a school record of 18 players who were drafted to the NFL over the last two years. His recruiting classes rank among the best in the country. Coach Jimbo Fisher considers his team a family, as he said in a statement, "It is a privilege to coach the young men in our program. It is truly a family."

The Seminoles will be leaving this Friday to prepare for the College Football Playoffs semifinal game against Oregon in the New Year.
