‘The Flash’ New Cast News: ‘Spartacus’ Star Liam McIntyre to Appear as Major Villain

'Sparticus' star Liam McIntyre is set to play as the villain Weather Wizard, also known as Marc Mardon, on the CW series 'The Flash'.

True to his name Weather Wizard, McIntyre will have the power to control the weather. The villain will appear in Episodes 15 and 16 to blame Detective Joe West for the death of his brother Clyde Mardon. On that note, McIntyre is best known for his gladiator role in the series 'Spartacus: War of the Damned'.

'The Flash' has greatly contributed to the increase of television ratings for CW along with 'Arrow' and 'Jane the Virgin'.

CW experienced a slump in the ratings for the past few years, but has greatly improved with the debut of the new shows. The network's president Mark Pedowitz admitted that the journey was not easy.

"It's been a long process. We've had a strategy and we've stuck to that strategy," Pedowitz said.

The president revealed the process they had to go through before achieving the current improvements. They knew they had to extend the audience bracket aside from the 18 to 34 years old viewers. However, CW admitted that they lost male viewers after 'Smallville' ended a few years ago.

"Thanks to Warner Bros. and CBS we have been building back to a stronger position. This didn't all happen in one year, but this is the (season) that it feels like everything is connecting," Pedowitz added.

In the past, CW shows catered more to the female audience but they have expanded their genres now. The DC Comics shows such as 'Arrow' and 'The Flash' can now lure the male audience as well.

Male viewers are now at 40 percent compared to 30 percent last year. On that note, the premiere of 'The Flash' in October garnered 6.8 million viewers.

Aside from that, the superhero shows have attracted advertisers to invest in the network especially in the automotive and financial sectors.

The next new episode of 'The Flash' will air on Januart 20 at 8 pm on CW.
