Georges St-Pierre News: Former UFC Champ Could Fight Again, According to Coach

Georges St-Pierre hasn't fought since he defended his title against Johny Hendricks by way of a controversial split decision back in November 2013. The UFC and the welterweight division has since moved on without him, with Hendricks holding the belt for a while before being defeated by current champion Robbie Lawler. But St-Pierre's long-time coach Firas Zahabi isn't ruling out a possible return to the Octagon by the French-Canadian.

"He doesn't have to take any breaks to do a lot of sport-specific training. He does a lot of fitness. Every time we train with him he looks in better shape than he was at his peak," Zahabi told Inside MMA, adding that ST-Pierre trains at Tristar three times a week.

"He's training like he used to train when he was preparing for a fight. I think he'll come back and do it, but I think he'll do it for the adventure. He's not very much into the title. He's not very much interested in being the most famous guy. That's not his thing. He loves the thrill of competition. I just don't think he will walk away."

St-Pierre just turned 34 years old and appears to still be as fit as his coach claims basing on the fitness videos the former champion has been posting on social media. But Zahabi opines that if St-Pierre will return to fight in the UFC again, it will only be for a marquee fight.

"When they put his name on a poster again, there's gonna have to be another colossal name, a historical name next to it," Zahabi said, also pointing out that the UFC's implementation of a stricter drug testing could also sway one of the UFC's greatest champions to get back into the sport.

St-Pierre's understudy, Rory MacDonald, is scheduled to fight for the welterweight title against Lawler at UFC 189 on July 11
