'Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward' Expansion News, Details: Dark Knight, Astrologian, Machinist, Triple Triad & More
The latest MMORPG from Square Enix's Final Fantasy series has had some major hiccups in the past. However, during PAX East 2015, the company announced the release date for its first expansion for Final Fantasy XIV. The expansion, titled Heavensward, will release on June 23 of this year. Players who preorder it can start playing as early as June 19.
Fitting for the expansion's title, Heavensward will feature a playable world in the skies. Flying mounts such as Black Chocobo's and Single-Rider Airships will be available to players. The area will also be host to a bunch of new surprises for players to find and enjoy.
The massive world of Eorzea will also feature seven new areas to explore: Coethas Western Highlands, Dravanian Forelands and Hinterlands, The Churning Mists, The Sea of Clouds, Floating Continent and Chocobo Forest.
Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida promised players that the new expansion would bring everything players love about the classic installments as well as new features. In a PAX East panel he said, "What we strive to achieve with FFXIV is like a Final Fantasy series theme park. You have original attractions that have to be good, but we also want to incorporate elements that Final Fantasy players from any generation will recognize and be attracted to."
Other hyped features besides exploring the sky is fantasy casino the Gold Saucer and card game Triple Triad from Final Fantasy VIII. Gold Saucer is a fantasy casino where players can bet on Chocobo races and Triple Triad is a card game that can be played with NPCs and other online players.
Three new jobs will also be available. They are the Dark Knight, the Astrologian, and the Machinist. Heavensward will be available in three separate packages: a regular editions, a combo pack for newcomers, and a collector's edition.
