'Final Fantasy 15' News: Game Director Talks Possible VR Integration
Square Enix's 'Final Fantasy 15' plans on making its arrival in 2016, making it the first title in the franchise to make it to next gen consoles.
This means fans can expect to see the RPG series on a whole different scale with the integration of new gaming technology.
One of the biggest innovations teased to come in the upcoming years is VR Support, which was just revealed to be tested for 'Final Fantasy 15.'
At the PAX in Seattle, game director Hajime Tabata spoke with IGN about what they were hoping to accomplish and why it was eventually scrapped.
"We had tested out utilizing VR," Tabata told IGN via translator. "At the time we were looking into it, we felt that it could potentially work as a passive experience for a portion of the game utilizing VR. We felt that it would potentially make sense for a segment, but in terms of the overall game in itself, the entire game, we didn't feel that having that headset on for the entirety of the game and that experience would match what we were aiming for with XV."
"It's a very long game," he added. "You'd wear that headset for hours."
While this may not be something we see in the upcoming game, it has recently revealed that 'Final Fantasy 15' would be using the Luminous Engine.
"In that regard, the Luminous engine is a designer's paradise. Tool sets including a content navigator, cutscene and shader editors, material creators and more were shown, each part of Square Enix's plans to create a simple-to-use infrastructure for developers. In a scene halfway through the demo where insects come together to form skin over a monster's skeleton, Square Enix showed us just how much detail a programmer can add. Within seconds, the number of insects on screen was increased to 100,000. Upon close inspection, every single one had detailed wings and bodies," writes IGN.
