‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Trilogy News: Two More Sequels on the Way; Second Film to Release in 2016

While two days remain until the romantic drama film 'Fifty Shades of Grey,' based on British author E. L. James' novel and directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, hits theaters, there is news that the movie will be getting sequels. However, this does not come as a surprise to fans, as the novel series on which the upcoming movie is based has three books.

Vanity Fair says that currently 'Fifty Shades of Grey' is the fastest selling film for advanced viewing in the R-rated movie category. While the movie seems to be a hit even before its official release, even the book trilogy outsold the "Harry Potter" series - at least on Amazon U.K.

Soon after the premiere of 'Fifty Shades of Grey' at a fan screening in New York City on Feb. 6, Taylor-Johnson declared that two more films will be made based on E. L. James' book trilogy. The second film in the series will be released in 2016.

'Fifty Shades of Grey' stars Dakota Johnson, who portrays the character of a literature student named Anastasia "Ana" Steele, while Jamie Dorman plays the role of the affluent, but mysterious Christian Grey.

In the upcoming movie, Ana Steele does a favor for her roommate Kate Kavanagh (portrayed by Eloise Mumford) wherein she interviews Christian Grey. The storyline of 'Fifty Shades of Grey' revolves around Steele and Grey as the literature student finds out some of the latter's secrets and chooses to explore her personal needs and desires.

According to the report, there were rumors in 2012 that author E.L. James was of the view that casting Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in the lead roles of the movie would be "weird." Other rumors claimed that Ian Somerhalder and Chace Crawford were keen on playing a lead role in the film. Later, Somerhalder, however, reportedly admitted that even if had been considered for the role of Christian Grey, he would have been automatically got entangled in a scheduling conflict between the film and the CW series, 'The Vampire Diaries,' where he plays Damon Salvatore.

'Fifty Shades of Grey' is scheduled to hit the theaters on Feb. 13.
