'Fifty Shades of Grey' Sequel Release Dates: ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ - Feb 10,2017 & ‘Fifty Shades Freed’ - Feb 9, 2018

Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley announced the official release dates for the two upcoming sequels of the erotic romance'Fifty Shades of Grey,' - 'Fifty Shades Darker' and 'Fifty Shades Freed' at the CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Thursday.

IB Times reports that while 'Fifty Shades Darker,' based on the second novel by E.L. James in the series, will premiere on Feb. 10, 2017, the third installment in the series 'Fifty Shades Freed' will hit the theaters on Feb. 9, 2018.

According to the report, before showing a reel comprising the biggest moments of 'Fifty Shades of Grey,' Langley discussed the box-office success of the romantic film that was released on Valentine's Day this year. The movie stars Jamie Dornan as billionaire Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as his inexperienced lover, Ana Steele. Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan will reprise their characters in both the upcoming sequels.

Following the screening of the clip, audience saw the tagline "Curious for more?" on the screen, and this was followed by the official release dates for the next two 'Fifty Shades' films.

Meanwhile, New York Times reports that it was confirmed earlier director Sam Taylor-Johnson and screenwriter Kelly Marcel will not be returning for the second and third movies. In her place, Niall Leonard, novelist E.L. James' husband, will adapt the two books for the upcoming films. While the name of the new director has yet to be announced, Universal has planned that production of both films will commence next summer in Vancouver.

The report says that though Universal did not name a director for either film, the public announcement of release dates of the two movies is an indication that the studio may be proceeding in its search. Rumors say that any director who will be at the helm of the two movies will require contending with the domineering Ms. James, who has been reportedly granted an extraordinary degree of creative control by Universal.

Meanwhile, 'Fifty Shades of Grey,' released in February, has garnered $568.8 million in box office worldwide.
